From classroom dress to spirit week to Westy wear, students frequently show up in Uggs. We noticed that most students wear the Tasman slippers, Coquette slippers, or the Ultra Minis. With such a wide range of styles, a question emerges: which Ugg Slipper is the best?
In order to figure out which style was superior, we tried on each style ourselves, interviewed our peers, and compared and contrasted the characteristics of each. The data we gathered is as follows:
Tasman – $100: These shoes can be recognized by their unique style with embroidery on the brim, the most slipper-like style. While interviewing our peers, common praise became apparent. Students enjoy the unique yet simple style of the shoe and their comfort. However, along with the pros, there also came cons. Several students mentioned how the shoes were challenging to put on since the back requires you to pull them over your heel. They also mentioned how, although the shoes don't need socks, your ankles can get cold in the winter. Overall, although these shoes are the cheapest option out of the three, the annoyingness of putting them on outweighs the shoe's comfort.
Coquette – $120: These shoes are the most common and classic style of Ugg with a fur brim and a slip-on style. Just by observation, this style of Ugg is the most popular at Westminster, but that doesn't necessarily mean that they are the best. In fact, several of our peers mentioned that this particular style of Ugg could be warmer, therefore, impractical for winter, and they slide off very easily. However, some argued that they can easily slide off is good since it means they are also easy to out on. Other complaints that students mentioned were how the shoe's popularity makes them easier to misplace, and the Coquettes aren't very formal and can't be worn to class. Nonetheless, many students still had several great things to say about this shoe style. Notably, students regarded this style as the cutest, most flattering, and easiest to pair with everything. One student also mentioned how the grip on the bottom of the shoe makes it harder to fall. Based on interviews, it is clear that these shoes face the opposite issues presented by the Tasman shoes since they slide off too easily but are very easy to put on. Despite these shoes being more expensive than the previous pair, they aren't that much better.
Ultra minis – $140: This pair of Uggs is the most boot-like pair out of the three options. Although these are the most expensive, they are also the most practical. Many people acknowledge it as the most difficult to put on. Still, even though they are the hardest to put on, the coverage of the slipper is unmatched, making them the warmest and the perfect shoe for the Winter Term. Another positive aspect of the Ultra Minis that the other slippers don't have is the fact that they are the most versatile and efficient with outfits. Notable celebrities such as Kendall Jenner have been spotted wearing them, making them the most trendy of the three.
When taking all the pros and cons of each slipper into account, there was a general consensus that they were all slightly difficult to put on. Still, December makes the Ultra Mini the best Ugg boot to purchase because it is the warmest.
