Three Poems

A Magical Elf
minding your business
going on a hike can be fun.
 
It can be even more fun when you run into a Magical Elf.
 
this elf says it can grant you a wish --
 
like a genie
you say.
 
it pouts
yes, like a genie.
 
you wish to be beautiful.
 
it turns you into a flower.
 
 
Corn 
An 8-foot-tall maze for the penultimate season:
A fresh loaf of bread:
or a muffin.
 
A backyard barbeque essential;
I’ll bring the melted butter:
You bring the salt.
 
Corn --
 
“It has the juice.”
 
 
Noise
A blanket wrapped tight on a cold night;
Tight laced running shoes;
A snug watch wrapped to your wrist.
 
Three screens for two eyes.
Two bags for one back --
 
Too many thoughts for one head.
 
Put on your headphones.
Turn up the volume.
Let silence triumph.
