As vaccination numbers are rising and COVID-19 cases simultaneously diminish, this summer is expected to be the first time that Americans can live in “real life” again in over a year. This summer’s fashion centers on comfort and elegance with a dash of “summer of love” pieces. Although individuals are free to choose between the monochrome-chic look and the flow in summer florals and crochets, everyone is ultimately seeking to prioritize comfort and style.
For a sleeker and more elegant look, the two trending styles are monochrome and silk. Although monochrome is always a choice, we are seeing it more than ever this year. A monochromatic outfit makes everything look stylish, even if you’re running an errand as simple as just going to the store. Silk midi and maxi dresses are also coming into play for the warmer months. Silks are perfect for evenings out with friends or family or even just going out for the day.
Although it may be controversial, the “hippie” look is back in. Everything floral, open-toed, and light is the look this summer. Teva sandals, generally considered to be of the “crunchy” aesthetic, are now making their way into the fashion world as a style piece. Admittedly, the shoes can be paired with many different outfits and are fairly versatile, adding extra flair to what otherwise might be a monotonous look. Another new trend of a similar vibe is crochet. This yarn-like patterned clothing was all the rave back in the 60s — and even just a couple of years ago — but now we are seeing myriads of crochet in tops, dresses, pants, skirts, and so much more.
This summer also witnesses the revival of white overall shorts. Paired with a cute floral or patterned shirt, this could be the perfect “cool and casual” look you’ve been searching for. Whether you put these all together or just add a few to your closet, I recommend giving a few of these new styles a try. Jean shorts have always been a classic summer staple, yet this year, we have seen jean shorts go from high cut to low cut. Longer jean shorts, whatever color, are in style. Say goodbye to booty-shorts and hello to 3” inseams. It does seem conservative, but don’t be fooled; you will be seeing these shorts wherever you go this summer.
With summer right around the corner, be sure to take a look at some of these styles to upgrade your summer wardrobe.
