So, it's mid May and finally getting warm out. The flowers are descending from the branches of the trees to reveal thick set emerald green leaves. After a long week of finals, you wake up and think, “you know what? I think I’m ready for a trip across the pond.” Well, you're in luck, because this EU travel guide will assist you through all your travel needs!
Thanks to successful vaccine rollout and advanced communication between the European Union and the United States, it is anticipated that free movement throughout the EU is a totally viable option, according to the President of the EU, Ursula von der Leyden. After nearly 16 months of travel bans and restrictions, this news may sing songs of new experiences and old friends to many; however, bearing in mind the longevity of this pandemic, it is important to recognize that travel this summer will remain far from ‘normal.’ With that said, here are a few key things to consider before packing your bags:
  1. In these unprecedented times, cancellations are nearly inevitable, and it is more important than ever to ensure all of your travels. “Cancel for any reason” upgrades are a nearly surefire option as far as last-minute plan changes go. Buy this policy within three weeks of booking your travels and have between 50-75% of your trip covered no matter what.
  2. Even if you are fully vaccinated, be sure to obtain a negative test result no more than three days prior to your departure.
  3. With that, digital green certificates in order to prove vaccination status, negative COVID-19 test, and recent recovery from the virus are being developed by the EU, and will be valid throughout all 27 countries. Be sure to stay tuned as more details on these certificates are released in the coming weeks.
  4. Plan outdoor activities! Think hiking, camping, and biking — all activities that can be done somewhat comfortably bearing the circumstances.
  5. Prepare for the “new normal”: Despite improved circumstances and consistent vaccine rollout in both the EU and the US, masks and social distancing regulations are still being enforced. Think outdoor seating, plastic partitions, and mask mandates.
As we hopefully approach the tail-end of this pandemic, it is important to recognize how far we have come, whilst being cognizant of how far we still have to go. So, with diligent masking and distancing, consider all of the points listed above, and your dream European vacation is right around the corner!
