By Alex Goodman ’25“Too Much Memory” is the newest addition to the Dramat Association's fall play collection. The play is a modern adaptation of the Greek tragedy “Antigone.” In “Antigone,” a grief-stricken girl defies kingdom law to honor her dead brother. The play is sad, dark, and heavy — a deviation from the comedies the Dramat Association has put on in the past two years. I asked why Mr. Rasheed, who is the Director of Theater at Westminster and has an M.F.A from NYU, chose this play, and he said, “The students that I worked with were eager to do a dramatic piece. Some of the Sixth Formers thought it would be great to do a serious play. I think the classics are very important and this is a more accessible version of a classic play.”
By Charlotte Covill ’25This April, the UConn Huskies claimed the title of NCAA Men’s Basketball Champions. Connecticut immediately went into an uproar as their beloved men's team claimed their first title since 2014, dubbing the rural town of Storrs the ‘Basketball Capital of the World’. But with strong teams like Duke and Kansas, can UConn defend their title and become the eighth team to repeat victory?

The temperature in Simsbury has been fluctuating recently. I have started, unprecedentedly, wearing my giant navy jacket even before the start of Thanksgiving. By Hannah Small ’25As the weather changes and seasons start to shift, so do menus. One of Westminster’s classic places to visit is the Simsbury Starbucks. It is a convenient place for every student on the hill, whether grabbing a quick refresher or going out for coffee. Going from pumpkin spiced flavoring to gingerbread, the seasons have affected the fan-favorite Simsbury Starbucks menu. But what is truly the best Starbucks drink? Personally, I think any classic Starbucks drink is the best, since no matter what time of the year it is, they are always available. Although some may disagree, many view the pumpkin sweet cold foam as top tier, or the sugar cookie almond milk latte. These drinks only exist seasonally, but they still reach the top of the charts for Starbucks customers. After researching I've learned that one of the most popular Starbucks drinks is the pumpkin cream cold brew, a seasonal flavor only offered during the fall. So maybe the seasonal drinks have won the category of best Starbucks drinks, although, in the end, it all comes down to personal preference.
By Trent Jones ’25Ms. Mogck is the embodiment of homegrown talent. Ms. Mogck was born and raised right here in Simsbury, Connecticut, and though she didn’t necessarily plan on returning to Simsbury initially, we are all thankful she did. She is now raising her three children here. They even attended the same elementary and now high school as her.
By Sunshine Li ’26As the end of autumn approaches, colorful leaves will turn into capes of snow, and our fall sports teams will wrap up their seasons with the end of the first trimester of the 2023-2024 school year on Williams Hill. I was lucky to be a part of Girls Cross Country, and I would like to share some of our favorite moments from the season, with reflections from our coaches, captains, Sixth Formers, and members.
By Simon Stambaugh ’26 and Sabrina Yang ’26 You can’t spend a year without your Form Dean, possibly the most well-known teacher in your entire form. They help set up form events and act as your safety net when you need a place to go. We have interviewed every Form Dean and brought you the roles of the most important mentors for your career here at Westminster: Mr. Kendall of the Third Form, Mr. Curtis of the Fourth Form, Mrs. Wosleger of the Fifth Form, and Ms. Smith of the Sixth Form.
Why Do Women Earn Less Than Men? Harvard Economist and Nobel Winner Claudia Goldin Explains11/15/2023
By Mr. Blanton In early October, it came across the wire that Claudia Goldin, Harvard economic historian, won the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences for her work in labor economics. As an economic historian myself, but knowing little about Goldin’s work, your intrepid friendly neighborhood econ teacher swung into action to learn about Goldin’s contributions to economic history.
By Chip Genung ’25This week, I had the opportunity to sit down with Associate Head of School Mrs. Keough and to have an insightful conversation about her first year in that new position.
By Finn Seeley ’25Associate Professor Asad Khan, from the University of Queensland’s School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences, led an eight-year longitudinal study of the association between sports participation and the psychosocial well-being of Australian children. The study was published in the Journal of Adolescent Health in September of 2023. The researchers found that children who participate regularly from an early age in sports have better long-term mental health.
