The NBA trade deadline has been one for the books, including many blockbuster trades out of nowhere, resulting in new power fluctuations in both conferences. Beginning in the Eastern Conference, we saw Marcus Smart get traded from the Grizzlies to the Washington Wizards, which also comes bundled in a 1st round draft pick, hopefully, to help the Wizards rebuild attempts. Despite lacking paint depth, Jorden Poole, Marcus Smart, and Kris Middleton may prove to be a scary backcourt. The Grizzlies received some second-round picks but also Marvin Bagley, who can add depth to their Power Forward position to relieve Jaret Jackson Jr. Another trade in the east comes from the Raptors, gaining Brandon Ingram, a small forward who has a stead 22 points per game season to help elevate the raptors back into playoff contention. The biggest trade, however comes from the Heat as they trade Jimmy Butler to the Golden State Warriors. The Heat now seems to accept their fate of mediocrity, as Jimmy Butler’s skills kept them running for a while, but probably launched them out of contention. Meanwhile, the Warriors gain their 3rd splash brother again in Jimmy Buckets, a dominant goalscorer despite his age whose competitive attitude might elevate Steph and Draymond Green to the finals again. From East to West, the West has had significant trades. First, is the De'aaron Fox going to the San Antonio Spurs to build a solid backcourt to aid in Victor Wembanyama's dominance, while the Kings recessive Zach Lavine and a mountain of draft picks as the Kings look to build a stronger future and to push off a championship in later seasons. Lastly is Luka Dončić pairing with LeBron James in LA, which creates one of the most intimidating teams in the NBA despite their lack of paint presence. With Luka going to LA, the Dallas Mavericks gained Anthony Davis, a veteran defensive machine, who despite being prone to injuries can be effective in pushing teams deep in the playoffs.
