The Future of Artificial Intelligence

Artificial intelligence has become prominent in recent years, with the introduction of OpenAI’s Chatgpt. Other companies have tried to compete with this by introducing artificial intelligence, such as Google’s Gemini, Microsoft’s Copilot, and most recently, DeepSeek. AI has been developed as an invaluable resource that helps our everyday lives.

The central concept of AI is teaching the computer how to process information, chat, or perform any action that the user wants. To do this, the computer has to learn and process countless data points, identify similarities between them, and use these similarities in its tasks
Artificial Intelligence has further developed through these processes, making it accessible to a broader demographic. OpenAI, the creator of Chatgpt, also created DALLE, an AI tool that can translate text into visuals. Users input a word, concept, or even a desired drawing style. Then, by learning from past data, the computer exports a variation from the billions of photos it previously collected to match the text the user inputted. This was significant for AI, as now it could create digital art out of thin air.

Recently, OpenAI released its new AI, Sora, a robust system that generates not images but hyper-realistic videos. From the examples shown by the company, the videos are flawless and imperceptible, regardless of their authenticity. A juxtaposition to this is a famous AI-generated video featuring acclaimed actor Will Smith eating what seems to be spaghetti. This video was created a year ago, and the public was not apprehensive about its capabilities. However, with only 1 year of development, AI was able to improve astronomically, giving concerns about its power.

Many people rely on video creation, most notably Youtubers. However, with all the power of Artificial Intelligence, such as Sora, their jobs are jeopardized, similar to robots taking over roles like waiters and cashiers. Stricter regulations should undoubtedly be employed to restrict this level of artificial intelligence from being used in the job market so that many individuals can sustain their livelihoods, especially amidst the challenges posed by the current inflationary economy. As wages struggle to keep pace with inflation, individuals are forced to make difficult financial decisions, often sacrificing discretionary spending or essential needs. Technology should be their last concern against the cost of living and should not be a significant obstacle to survival.

Yet another threat has arisen in recent weeks, especially in the stock market, as the Chinese company DeepSeek has produced a rivaling AI model to the GPT, proving its efficiency but, most importantly, its cost efficiency, according to AI analysts. Compared to other models, the most significant distinction of DeepSeek is its ability to independently improve and learn without human interaction, potentially surpassing human intelligence. This calls upon fear in the American economy, as NVIDIA and other tech giants were to dominate this market. Still, China invested over 95 billion dollars in 2023 to research AI and technology like superconductors. The future of leading companies in this industry is uncertain, with the US fearing that it will go into the hands of China and lose its title of being a dominant country in technology. Solutions were announced through the White House and Senate briefings, emphasizing the necessity of increasing funds for technology development.
